The Mechanical Reproductions label has taken a while getting round to its second drop, but the debut release from Bristolian duo Bad Tracking was well worth the wait. ‘XP3’ and ‘XP1’ are both hiss-drenched wonders. The former takes up the whole A-side, meandering as it does through a few loosely-related sections. We get juddering tape-techno, industrial beatwork, clear-blue-sky ambience and much more across ‘XP3’s near-eight-minute length. ‘XP1’ sticks more closely to a single idea throughout, albeit one that alternates between gritty chip-drone and more erstwhile techno stylings. The release closes out with Ossia’s Hessle-flavoured remix of the B-side. Fans of Hype Williams, Jam City and the seemingly never-ending slew of soundsystem techno coming out of Bristol at the moment will find plenty to love here.
