Two of Vancouver’s burgeoning house institutions - Pender Street Steppers and the Mood Hut imprint - get together again for another EP of smooth cruising music. Those familiar with PSS’s previous drops will find plenty more to enjoy across these five pieces of classy, unhurried deep house. Drawing more from the oceanic school - Balearic house, Arthur Russell’s ‘Let’s Go Swimming’ - than the Midwest style, PSS’s sound is in the same orbit as DJ Seinfeld, DJ Boring and other Mood Hut acts like Neo Image. What sets the duo apart is their penchant for thick electro basslines - try the chunky groove of ‘Blackboard’ on this front - as well as chirruping woodwind melodies. Very nice indeed.
