Smalltown Supersound have had an excellent 2017, and a few of their LPs are likely to be knocking about the best-of lists come the end of the year. One of those in contention is Carmen Villain’s Infinite Avenue, a psychedelic delight that combined techno, folk and cosmic pop. Klara Lewis and Biosphere both channel the record’s stargazing tendencies on their reworkings of two standouts from Infinite Avenue. Lewis pulls the rug out from underneath Jenny Hval collaboration ‘Borders’, with Villain and Hval’s voices now left to drift amid a gently pulsing soundscape equal parts shoegaze and ambient. Biosphere gently tugs at the Gainsbourg-in-space original of ‘Red Desert’ until it becomes the sort of tender thing that might round out a Floating Points 12”.
