The freak-beat aficionados at Sweden’s Höga Nord see out 2017 with another piece of leftfield goodness. Jean-Louis Huhta has been a fixture of Gothenburg’s experimental music scene since the 1980s, and his Dungeon Acid project sees him bringing together his interests in Krautrock, acid house, punk and techno for these two trippy cuts. ‘Dog Acid’ is a 110-bpm strut, slouching towards Bethlehem on a bed of seasick keyboards, lurching drums and grinding distortion. On the B-side, ‘Sex Beat’ (not a cover of The Gun Club) is a nervy, Can-ish track with a groove that pulls you in deeper and deeper over the six minute run time. As the record’s sleeve promises, the effect will last forever.
