Yamaneko’s new mini-LP for Local Action (Finn, Slackk, DJ Q) is a record that delivers on its title. Spa Commissions is an album that born from … a commission the producer received to create music for a spa. The music he made for the space eventually morphed into the album we have here. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Spa Commissions coaxes out the ambient stylings that have long lurked in the background of Yamaneko’s sound. The LP’s warm keyboards and lush synthscapes are peppered with sounds like hissing steam and falling rain, with the overall effect being as if you are actually there in the spa yourself. A gorgeous, painterly album.
