While this may be Lachlan McFeely Bolt’s first release on Astral Black under his own name, the Scottish producer/visual artist does have previous with the label. His 2015 Head/Body EP as Dressin Red turned heads with its slick combination of HudMo-esque beatwork and Fade To Mind-ish club tracking. While some of the sonic features of Dressin Red carry over to this release, Still is an altogether calmer affair. Even when tracks like ‘Release’ lean heavier on the drums, there is still a feeling of restraint in the autumnal keyboard palette. Elsewhere the combination of post-dubstep, contemporary r&b and home-taping techniques place Still in the same lane as early Mount Kimbie and King Krule/Archy Marshall.
