Walton returns to Tectonic for a two-track that, despite its dancefloor predilections, is defined by its lightness. Toying with grime’s Orientalist streak on both numbers, the producer allows space and order to reign even when the beats are loud enough to shake the speaker stacks. ‘Praying Mantis’ glides in on a feather-light hi-hat pattern before giving way to a delightfully graceful harp solo. Walton then layers bass hits, skittering percussion and the odd bit of zither with a painterly craftsmanship. B-side ‘Koto Riddim’ recalls the early 2000s Sinogrime golden age more overtly, though the drum tracking is still defined by a feeling of careful measurement.
