On Porches’ third LP, Aaron Maine completes his transformation from twee-punk troubadour into synth-pop heart-throb. The House may not ever fully embrace its titular genre, but cuts like ‘Find Me’ and ‘W Longing’ certainly have club potential. Maine’s voice is the axis around which this record turns, imbuing these digi-pop mini-odysseys with warmth and candour. The occasional use of autotune (‘Anymore’) is reminiscent of the recent Dirty Projectors comeback record. If the likes of ‘Ono’ and ‘Wobble’ are anything to go by, Maine has been brushing up on his Johnny Jewel too.
