Antinote mainstay D.K. Chau takes inspiration from David Borden on the opening piece for his new 12”. Echoing Borden’s minimalist keyboard studies, the A1 on Distant Images unfolds in a flurry of gorgeous textures that set the tone for the rest of the EP. ‘Leaving’ sounds like Chau’s own take on Yasuaki Shimizu’s ‘Umi No Ue Kara’, a beautiful marimba piece with FM synths that somehow sounds vintage yet timeless all at once. DK’s influences may seem quite obvious but it’s one of the best gestures to those 80s ambient records we’ve heard. Five tracks of guaranteed bliss here, act quick!
