Trevor Jackson has been combing through the Playgroup catalogue of late. The latest batch of tracks to surface from the project’s turn-of-the-century heyday are these twenty dubs (and a couple of bonus tracks), eleven of which have never previously seen the light of day. Though predating the indie-dance revival of the mid-2000s by a few years, the likes of DFA and Optimo might well have been taking notes from the louche, cool Playgroup sound. Bringing together NYC punk-funk ala ESG, DIY house, dubtronica and a pinch of plunderphonics, these lost gems prove well worth the wait. Out via Yes Wave.
