Moire’s NEVERSLEEP releases are pretty rare, so it’s always advisable to listen closely whenever a new one drops. These BBOY EDITS have a similarly grainy quality to 2015’s Mouth Shut/Party Girls EP, though the sonic textures are richer and more welcoming. ‘Drama Garden’ and ‘Phone Calls’ both evince plenty of nice tones and melodies, while the production allows the kick drum to really dominate the mix. The effect is akin to the melodic, r&b-tinged house of Yaeji and D. Tiffany. ‘Kode1 Edit’ and ‘Futura’ are slightly tuffer, with the latter sporting a particularly sprightly bassline, though any of their more aggressive impulses are again curtailed by some pretty sampling and nice work on the keys.
