This release from Sontag Shogun was put together with great care. The Brooklyn group began with pianist Ian Temple responding to the freeform sounds created by the other members Jeremy Young and Jesse Perlstein. Retreating to a studio in Montreal, the trio then created using everything from tape loop to glockenspiel while similarly ‘playing’ the spaces they recorded in via clever use of microphones. The result is a tender, detailed LP, one where ambiences, melodies and textures slides across one another in a manner that pitches Patterns For Resonant Space somewhere between Oval and Music For Airports-era Brian Eno. A quietly arresting listen.
