After reintroducing herself in 1993 with her solo Debut, Björk returned two years later to present pop music as it had never been heard before on Post. Describing it herself as “musically promiscuous”, “urban” and “euphoric”, Post is one of the most eclectic and borderless chapters in Björk's inimitable catalogue of work, building upon the dance pop style of her first LP as she dropped anchor in London and lapped up all the city had to offer. It’s a mishmash of sounds mimicking the size and sensory overload of the capital, and an indispensable catalogue of the styles travelling through the UK during the mid 90s.

Björk’s prolific output has remained engaging on account of her endless need to explore and innovate, and Post is the ultimate manifestation of that genre hopping ethos. With ecstatic, maximalist hustle and bustle, the record journeys from the trip hop atmospherics of ‘The Modern Things’ to the barefaced tribal dance charm of ‘I Miss You’, and even makes room for a big band show tune with ‘It’s Oh So Quiet’, while she often distills complex ideas and narratives into pop songwriting that anyone can connect with. Her idiosyncratic lyrics evoke intense visual feelings, amid house rhythms constantly propelling through emotional peaks and valleys, lax downtempo beats and lapsteel sighs conjuring the unstable chemical reactions of love, and earthy marching drums transforming into wondrous chamber pop.

A pivotal landmark in the trajectory of alternative music’s foremost luminary, Björk’s Post continues to surprise and scare 30 years later.
