Following the two and a half hour epic Ultraviolet Music, Rod Modell AKA Deepchord came back in 2017 for an album submerged even deeper into cloudy dub techno depths with Auratones. Spanning atmospheres of heavy rain, hailstones, and ethereal waves, the album sees Modell matching aquatic ambient soundscapes with deep, bass heavy rhythms, as he does best. Tracks like ‘Portofino’ are drowned in ambience and shimmering samples, patiently thumping to club rhythms, while the pumping beat on ‘Devil Ray’ rises to the surface with a Detroit techno energy that eventually fades back into the haze.
