Subtext ready two side long experimental pieces from Yair Glotman for their latest release. Glotman pairs contrabass with piano and percussion on Compound with extremely satisfying results, channelling that deep and introspective vibe of early Rabih Abou-Khalil. Eastern sounding yet adventurously eschewing that nasty ‘world music’ pitfall, basically. On the A side ‘Veil’ we allow the players to guide us through a full eight minutes of bliss before the percussion begins to overtake and lead direction, eventually reaching crescendo with a flurry of unusual sound. B side ‘Revelate’ gets going a little quicker, the piano captivating us from the first few minutes. Top stuff from Subtext yet again!
