Strange one, this. The second LP from Sandro Perri’s Off World project seems to have been beamed in from an electronic hinterland, one where it is perpetually dusk and things are not always as they seem. 2 is the sort of music that would typically be found soundtracking a peyote trip in a psychedelic film sequence. Each track evokes a feeling somewhere between tension and curiosity, and the meandering anti-grooves prove woozily hypnotic. Along with a cast that includes Drew Brown (Lower Dens, Beck) and Susumu Mukai (Zongamin), Perri wrings a plethora of strange sounds from his bank of synthesisers. 2 is one of 2017’s more intriguing releases.
