Light In The Attic add to their grand catalogue of re-releases with one of their most unique pieces to date. Even a Tree Can Shed Tears focuses on the Japanese underground of the late 60s and early 70s. At this time, the country’s youth began to turn away from Beatlemania and embrace the sounds of the American West Coast as well as reigniting an interest in native folk musical cultures. The result was the ‘New Music’ sound of Tokyo’s cafe scene and the protest music of the Kansai region. Even A Tree Can Shed Tears does a fine job of shining a light on key artists of the time, from the influential Happy End to Sachiko Kanenobu, aka the ‘Japanese Joni Mitchell’.
