Norwegian singer-songwriter Anna Lela Bruland comes through with her first full-length as EERA. Obvious touchstones for Reflection of Youth are Angel Olsen and Julia Holter, particularly the former’s Burn Your Fire For No Witness. Songs like ‘Living’ and ‘I Wanna Dance’ are bristly combinations of grunge, motown and indie-rock on which Bruland’s voice crests atop the fray. There is also more than a dash of PJ Harvey’s Let England Shake in the dark folk stomps of ‘Wise Man’ and ‘Survived’. Bruland and producer Nick Rayner have done a fine job on the mix too - there is real craft in making a song like ‘Beast’ sound simultaneously crisp and scuzzy. Out via Big Dada.
