The Hemlock resurgence continues unabated. Having had a quiet 2016, Untold’s imprint has dropped new music almost every month of this year. Releases have been offered up by relative newcomers Parris and Hodge as well as old heads like Bruce and, now, Airhead. Rob McAndrews’s first music for Hemlock in three years is a skittish affair, with the two tracks never allowing the listener to settle as they cycle through various grooves and licks. ‘Shaded’ contains a few stiff-necked grooves that dovetail with a ghostly minor-key chord stab, with the whole track giving off the sensation that you’re hearing an obscure Drexciya cut through the wall of the club’s smoking area. ‘Antipolo’ is more rubbery, an ethereal two-step that recalls Willow and James Blake’s Hemlock joints ‘Order’ and ‘Pan’.
