Four years on from King Krule’s debut LP Six Feet Beneath The Moon and the one born Archy Marshall drops his first single off forthcoming LP The Ooz. That said, it hasn’t been all quiet on the AM front in the intervening years - Marshall released the record A New Place 2 Drown late in 2015 under his given name. ‘Czech One’, the first single from The Ooz, steers close to the waters of that record with its lackadaisical beatwork and muted chord progression. However, it is Marshall’s treatment of the material that brings it into Krule territory. With his ultra-distinctive voice front and centre rather than lost in the mix, he spins a wonderful yarn in a manner that takes in Billie Holiday, Joe Strummer, MF Doom and all in between.
