If you hadn’t been keeping tabs on Mo Kolours - and it seems that a lot of people haven’t - he’s been excellent for a while now. All through the 2010s he’s been quietly plugging away on One-Handed Music, releasing record after record of sweet, idiosyncratic beat-music. Now on 22a, Meroe continues both his and the label’s excellent runs. The three-and-a-half pieces here are each classic MK, throwing together dub, Stones Throw-style hip-hop, rhythms drawn from his Mauritian heritage and a vocal style somewhere between toasting and singing. It’s no surprise that the likes of Gilles Peterson and Benji B continue to show signal. If you don’t know Mo, get to know Mo.
