Hot on the heels of his own The Mountain Has Fallen EP, DJ Shadow is now serving up a slice of post-DJ Shadow-style fare on his own Liquid Amber Imprint. Noer the Boy is an apt signing for the label, with the producer’s sound grounded in Shadow’s style while also incorporating elements of trip-hop, industrialism and dubstep. The title track is a heady brew that lurches from a sort of funereal music-box dirge into a mutant club track reminiscent of Arca. The rest of the album has an equally unnerving, claustrophobic hyperactivity to it, an effect that is only heightened when Portland beat-whizz Zero Tep shows up on ‘Final Warp’.
