Houndstooth serve up ten new tracks from the ever-engaging Second Storey. The one born Alec Storey continues to trip the line between IDM, techno, jungle and other classic electronic stylings. Things commence with the slow-burning ‘Moesha Moved to Margate’, a track that builds from a niggling synth line into a lopsided techno groove. This cut, and the likes of ‘Offbeat World’, are the kind of bass-heavy dubs that could crop up on Hessle Audio or Timedance. However, the album’s second half is where Storey really shows his range. ‘Barrel Roll’ is a strangely beautiful slice of mutated electro; ‘No Such Location’ is a sort of acid/two-step hybrid; and closer ‘Dartmoor Four’ is one-part juke, one-part IDM, and one-part twinkling ambience.
