The latest collaborative release between Houndstooth and the shapeshifting r&b duo offers two remixes of tracks from the group’s 2016 album Collect. It is a classic white-label - only 200 pressed, one piece on each side, and both cuts are killer. Babyfather’s ‘Meditation Mix’ of ‘Drama’ is yet another jewel in Dean Blunt’s cap. Unsurprisingly, the track takes cues from his now-seminal Arca collaboration ‘Meditation’, offering a loping instrumental over which we get the wry, idiosyncratic spitting of DJ Escrow. When the vocals from Samia Mirza come in, the interplay between her and Blunt is as effective as when Blunt is vibing off Joanne Robertson on his own releases. In contrast to the space of Blunt’s offering, GAIKA’s version of ‘Glow’ is dense, claustrophobic and unnerving. Ear-splitting synths, great throbs of sub and eerie chopped-and-screwed vocals steer this weightless cut into Haxan Cloak territory.
