Having previously found a home on Liminal Sounds, Orlando’s brand of experimental dancehall seems a perfect fit for Gobstopper. In the same manner as labelmates Iglew and Mr. Mitch, the four tracks of The Tide That Moves Me bring a unique emotional complexity to club stylings. However, rather than taking grime as the starting point, Orlando’s focus is on all things dembow. The title track, for instance, strips the drums out of a 100-bpm riddim and lathers everything in reverb to create something that can only be described as weightless bashment. ‘The Smoke Descends’ takes a similar tack while focussing more on the low-end of the mixer. Nemesis provides a star vocal turn on ‘Cyaa Done’, which despite being the most club-ready cut still has a nocturnal beauty to it.
