Killer stuff here from Jon Brooks courtesy of Clay Pipe Music. Deep zones, carefully manipulated field recordings and programmed percussion all merge together to create some unique sound scapes that pay homage to Brooks’ time spent in Normandy and Brittany. From the outset, Autres Directions lulls the listener into trance-like state, and we can’t help but hear the influence of Harold Budd, Mike Ratledge and obscure new age acts like The Ghostwriters (‘Remote Dreaming’!). Tracks like ‘L’Ancienne Grange’ and ‘Le Chateu’ harbour a sense of yearning and solitude yet remain firmly enticing and lend themselves to repeated plays. Great LP here and a must-check for any fans of Eno, Dais, Tor Lundvall et al.
