One of Ghost Box cofounder Jim Jupp’s very first musical endeavours was the Lovecraftian sonic experiments of Eric Zann in 2005. Inspired by “early 20th century cosmic horror fiction”, Ouroborindra features ephemerally transforming soundscapes of glassy synths and indiscernible whispers transmitted over radio waves, where something lurks beneath the noise. The uneasy oscillations of the title track morph over its eleven minute runtime, with lasering synths, sparkling sitar plucks, bells, and chimes becoming lost in the turbulent noise. Cinematic feelings are heavy here, with tracks like ‘The Obsidian Pyramid’ imposing and looming as the air is taut with tension.
