Serious mathematical art music here on PAN from Joerg Hiller aka Konrad Sprenger. Dissatisfied with typical instruments and associated constraints, the musician spent years developing his own complex algorithms in order to add to the cannon of experimental kraut, minimalism and contemporary techno. From the opening track (‘Opening’), we are thrown into a warm bubblebath of Fahey/Basho meets Craig Leon circa ‘Nommos’ era, but without feeling in any way throwback. The two 18 minute epics ‘Finale’ and ‘Rondo’ meander between soft digital ambient sound design and horns, harps and assisted guitar work. Really interesting stuff here and a must check for anyone into boundary pushing music.
