The Russian minimal techno luminaries SCSI-9 have a long and fruitful relationship with Kompakt that dates back to 2003’s All She Wants Is and includes the 2008 LP Easy As Down. Fast forward to 2017 and Kubikov, one half of the duo, comes through with his own full-length for the pioneering label. The beatless experiments here have a wonderful nocturnal quality, with soft synth keys and warm clouds of reverb the order of the day. Tracks like ‘Mintnight’ and ‘Timeless’ bob in the headphones with cerebral beauty, and the incorporation of live instrumentation - piano on ‘Oktober’, thumb piano on ‘North’ - is done with tender care. A very beautiful album.
