Ride continue on with the shoegaze-revival that has seen Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine resurface in the past few years. The group’s first album in two decades is a reassuringly skyscraping affair from the first keyboard strains of ‘Lannoy Point’, a track that builds momentum over six minutes through some metronome-tick drumming and soaring guitar work. Elsewhere one finds the group’s ear for the sublime undimmed on the ethereal ‘Home is a Feeling’, while tracks like ‘Charm Assault’ and ‘All I Want’ combine those classic cathedral-aping reverbs with some top post-punk grooves. Erol Alkan provides a contemporary spin on a classic sound from behind the mixing desk.
