Maggie Payne is perhaps one of the most consistently omitted yet undeniably important composers to emerge out of the American academic underground of the 1980s. Working with huge names such as Robert Ashley, Pauline Oliveros and Alvin Lucier, Payne redefined the boundaries of sound art and built upon concrete techniques to deliver some astounding drone works. Aguirre rightly reissue her debut LP Crystal, a four track collection of drifting electronics and harsh industrial soundscapes that is bound to appeal to any fan of the genre.
