Kyle Hall’s Wild Oats imprint (Funkineven, KMFH) has served up another fine array of sensual grooviness from K15. Hall himself makes an appearance on second track ‘Truthfully’, a cut which is the sort of lights-low soul one would have found Sade laying a vocal down over in her heyday. Closer ‘Speed of Life’ is similarly slow-and-low, combining a club producer’s ear for hefty drum patterning with a Dilla-style beat. The other three tracks here each keep things loose while ramping the tempo up to around 120 bpm. ‘Movements of Joy’ recalls both Floating Points and the classic Detroit sound, while ‘Look (Beyond You)’ and ‘This Life is All We Have’ are killer bongo-house rollers in the Moodymann style.
