The precociously talented Hannah Rodgers steps out with her first full-length, released via 4AD. The Age of Anxiety sees her funnel the fine songcraft of debut EP Fall In through a new lens of maturity and confident, assertive production. Grimes is an obvious touchstone, particularly on the likes of opener ‘I Bow Down’, but so too are Glasser and Youth Lagoon. Rodgers’ powerful alto, while containing shades of Anohni and Florence Welch, is also bracing in a manner uniquely her own. The Age of Anxiety is an arresting debut from an artist who may may be working in uncertain times, but who is simultaneously certain of her artistic gift.
