It is hard to imagine the landscape of contemporary Bristolian electronic music - hell, contemporary British electronic music - without either Peverelist or his Livity Sound label. Coming through with his first full-length on the imprint, the nine tracks of Tessellations are a fine demonstration of the one born Tom Ford’s winning combination of focus and finesse. ‘Burning Sea’ and ‘Plateau’ bookend the album with freeform synth ambiences that take clear cues from Eno. The tracks between these are versatile club cuts that take Livity’s typically quirky approach to house and techno to interesting places - the stumbling almost-half-time of ‘Further Inland’, for instance, or ‘Slice of Life’s halcyon rave nostalgia.
