The Central Processing Unit release wagon rolls on with another wedge of classy club throwbacks. Having dropped The League of Shadows via the label back in 2014, pAUL bLACKFORD is back with a two-track white label. The eponymous cut’s low-slung groove recalls Aphex Twin’s seminal ‘Ageispolis’, its classy 808 groove lilting forward as gentle synth lines creep atop it. On the vinyl flip, ‘Necessary Evil’ keeps things half-time with another rolling rhythm that often threatens to move into juke, but never quite makes the leap. The download comes fleshed out with six more impeccably crafted bits of 90s rave nostalgia.
