Denver’s Brian Froh delivers his fourth album under the (ghost) alias for N5MD. Much like labelmate bvdub, the sound of (ghost) tends towards the bleak and expansive. Track titles ‘Wounds’ and ‘To Watch it All Burn’ provide hints towards the iciness within, and the overall aesthetic mimics the bleaker end of Shackleton and his Skull Disco imprint. That said, Froh deals in a brand of IDM that is much further away from the dancefloor, decidedly knottier and with a penchant for stumbling onto sonic plateaus of great beauty in a manner not dissimilar to Forest Swords. There is also, on the likes of closer ‘What’s Left For Us’, a healthy pinch of breakbeat.
