Planet Mu's now in-house sonic scientist Ekoplekz returns in a fresh coat of low-fi kosmiche dub and wildly twisted 303 mayhem. While his last Mu outing Reflekzionz looked to the ambient electronica of early 90s µ-Ziq and AFX for inspiration, Bioprodukt turns its gaze back a further few years to the late 80s’ sound of first wave aciiiiiid!!!
Listening to the gurgling 303 basslines of Bioprodukt we are instantly struck by how much (in Ekoplekz's mitts) the eternally classic and instantly recognisable sound of a 303 can still be transformed to reflect something that hits the same peaks of "what on earth is this!?" wonderment that struck us when we had our first hit of some acid trax on wax.
As with every record in his discography rolls out, the charizmatic charm that is core to Ekoplekz's sound is ripe throughout. Much like Reflekzionz acted as a thoroughly loving and knowledgeable homage to the classic Mu/Skam/Rephlex gear, Bioprodukt filters the memories of early Warp/Creed/Network and mixes them with the very best moments of Psychic TV's Tune In (Turn On The Acid House) LP and in true 'plekz fashion even pulls in a bit of the DIY attitude (and let’s be honest other than the idea, the attitude was that the best bit of it) of Shane MacGowan's short lived long lengthed acid house project, all fired through a Bristolian education homemade soundsystem rig that adds a foggy dubwise sensibility to the sound that started it all.
But pretty much what this all means is, it's one of the best things to come from the Ekoplekz yet, now fingers crossed his next LP looks to jungle for influence!!
