Fire records deliver this 2017 reissue of classic punk funk band ESG’s debut Soul Jazz album. Signing with the label back in 2002, the South Bronx formed group have become legendary among new wave fans, disco DJ’s and hip-hop producers searching for complex drum samples. The title track ‘Step Off’ is haunting minimalist funk to the max, with a simple guitar motif recurring and tight-as-nails vocals commanding the listeners attention from the offset. The dubbed out production is another trademark of the groups sound, freakier than Konk but far more funky than Suicide. Top album from a timeless band!
