Deutsch Grammophon gift us with another album from Max Richter, a collection of 14 pieces that entrance from the opening moments of ‘Infra 1’, an abstract composition utilising broken radio signals and heavy doses of melancholy. If you’re already familiar with Richter’s vast back catalogue then you’ll be aware that’s a given, but there’s a special draw to Infra that had us looping each track again and again. The sense of mystery the album exudes as a whole is tangible but particular pieces (‘Journey 5’) lend themselves the accolade of being some of the best work we’ve heard from him yet.
