Abstract pop jams aplenty here from Hamburg based Sophia Kennedy. Releasing her debut LP on the much lauded DJ Koze’s Pampa label, the singer utilises multiple layers of her vocals to accompany the dissonant, futuristic piano work that make up the bulk of the instrumentation. Fervently minimal, the backing tracks seem to show little regard for harmonies, instead allowing Kennedy’s voice to assert full control. ‘3:05’ sounds immense, like some dark and mysterious club cut plucked right out of a peak-time Ame set. The singer keeps a highly individual style throughout the LP whilst managing to span a wide variety of moods, marking this an impressive debut.
