Highly idiosyncratic release from Madteo here. Confessions Of A Permanent Alien Opium Beater runs to almost eighty minutes and takes up two full sides of cassette. The work is a sound-college that crawls through the Italian producer’s wide-ranging record collection. Much of … Opium Beater sounds as if it’s been captured underwater, with faraway voices and icky thumps of bass swamping the mix. From these murky depths emerge shards of jazz, boom-bap, even Canned Heat. It’s an evocative and hallucinatory listening experience. Out on Origin Peoples (K. Leimer, Heavy Breathing).
