Having made his name in the 2000s as sort-of-dubstep producer Boxcutter, Barry Lynn here comes through with a release that sees him delve deeply into soundscaping. Many of the tracks on the Taurus Tapes were created primarily on an electric guitar and loop pedal - not unusual tools for Lynn to use, but notable for their prominence here. The result is an album that sits somewhere between Cankun and the loop work of Robert Fripp and Brian Eno. Only on the likes of ‘RV Tauri’ do the gears shift slightly, with Lynn introducing low hums of sine-wave bass, but the effect is still a pleasant and meditative ambience.
