Three long form drone based compositions for Subtext courtesy of Stockholm musician Ellen Arkbro. Referencing the title piece, Arkbro cites how the work can be thought of as “very slow and reduced blues music”, an interesting observation but one which quickly begins to make sense once the evocative tones the vintage organ emits are absorbed. Following on from the school of La Monte Young and Pauline Oliveros, these compositions rank amongst some of the best we’ve heard in recent years. Sure winner for any fans of minimalist music both past and present!
