Nuage’s second release on Project Mooncircle (My Panda Shall Fly, Rain Dog) sees the St. Petersburg producer establishing a strong voice. Pitched somewhere between Hot Chip, Flying Lotus and J Dilla, WILD is a record that also evinces a similar stuerm und drang and use of silence that recalls the early James Blake EPs. Cuts like ‘Arrival’ and the title track are deceptively complicated, with loping half-times disguising fidgety cross-rhythms in the percussion. The album is also packed full of melody and rich harmonies, particularly in the second half where four guests lend a hand to standouts like the Olga Maximova-featuring ‘Catch Light’.
