The second part of Death is Not The End’s collaboration with the Russian label Ored Recordings focuses on dance musics native to the Caucasus. While it may not be the sort of dance music Bleep users traditionally come to the site for, anyone taking the plunge here will find plenty to get down to. Many of the tracks are without drums, with quicksilver string playing providing the rhythmic thrust. The fingers of Nikolas and Konstantinos Singerov must have been smoking after their workout on ‘Omal-Gasarvis Dance’, and Ashiq Shemshir plays with similar vivaciousness on ‘Azeri Melody’. The range of instruments and styles present here evince Ored’s willingness to travel far into their region to find the best and most curious pieces.
