The man born Paul Woolford drops a new EP to serve as an addendum to his incendiary Fabriclive volume that saw daylight in March 2017. Five of the six cuts here appeared on that release in truncated forms, though each deserves to be heard in their full glory due to the elegant structuring and attention to detail across Stairfoot Lane Bunker. The title track is a fine example of this, coasting in on halcyon-glow synth-strings before the hyper-jungle that has become a Special Request trademark ratchets up the intensity. The largely grooveless ‘Telepathic Dog’ and ‘Five Lane Ends’ take their cues from the first half of the eponymous track, while ‘Replicant’ extrapolates the junglism to a near-six-minute masterclass in drum programming. ‘Redrum’, meanwhile, is a nice wedge of rugged 909-itude. The EP closes out with a remix of ‘Stairfoot Lane Bunker’ by Minor Science (Trilogy Tapes, Whities).
