Twenty years on and we finally get a re-press for Capone N Noreaga’s The War Report, an NYC underground classic. Hard-as-nails hip-hop in the vein of Wu Tang and Mobb Deep (the latter of which appear on ‘L.A., L.A.’), the album deals in murky beats indebted to RZA as the two MCs float like butterflies and sting like bees. The War Report is also notable for its cornucopia of features - an uncredited Busta Rhymes crops up on ‘Driver Seat’, Nneka guests on the sparkling thug-n-b of ‘Closer’, and Tragedy Khadafi is CNN’s third member in all but name as he provides verses for almost half the tracks.
