Gqom Oh! head honcho Nan Kole presents his first release via the ever-interesting Black Acre (Romare, Clap! Clap!). Malumz (entitled after the nickname, translated as ‘uncle’, that the Durban Gqom artists gave the Italian Kole) acts as a coming-out for Kole as a producer and also a celebration of the talent in Gqom. Lead track ‘Bayefal’ is a heady broth of yelped vocal samples, keys and sub bass over a pounding rhythm track. ‘Malumz’ is a tribute to the Gqom community in both name and sound, and Gqom frontrunners Citizen Boy and Formation Boyz crew come through with the remix b-side.
