The second collaborative release from Lurka & Batu, out via the former’s Fringe White imprint, consists of two obtuse club cuts that will turn heads if deployed correctly. ‘Kneqq’ skitters around initially, finding its feet when an insistent kick underpins a thrilling, spooky lead line in the manner of golden age Aphex Twin. After a while some muted, jazz-flecked synth chords make their way in, not so much flipping the vibe on its head but more slightly altering it and renewing interest for the second half of the track. The b-side ‘Struck’ is a nice piece of 100-bpm dancefloor fodder, looping onwards as the song pulls in hints of dancehall and dark techno.
