Active as a producer and guitarist in his native Belgium for well over a decade prior to the release of I Bambini Di Basilisco, the debut album from Elko B evinces his knack for crafting music that is carefully constructed yet witty and playful. Different sonic elements - generally guitar, synths and occasionally drums - are layered sparingly, with one always taking precedence while the others either support or fade to nothing. The likes of ‘Krokodil’ and ‘Crawling Night Bears’ could be cut from a film scene of a peyote hallucination, while ‘Une Fille A La Plage’ is a chirpy excursion into almost-dance music. A fun and idiosyncratic record.
